It’s the local festival celebrated in evergreen state and allied to Muslim community. Pattambi Narcha is a festival held in the reminiscence of Aloor Valiya Poolunjikoya Thangal, a Muslim devout from Malabar. During this fete, conventional jingle ensembles like Panchavadyam and Thayambaka in the night. The procession concludes around midnight on the banks of river and art forms take on a spectacular magnificence. Festival date occurs between January to early March.

A view of procession held as a part of Konganpada festival at the Bhagavathy temple at Chittur, 10 Kms from Palakkad town. Konganpada is a celebration of victory over Kongus and a colorful interpretation of several assaults and victories of Nairs of Chittur over the militia of Konganadu (Coimbatore), led by the Chola King Rajadhi Raja. It’s being held on the first Monday after gloomy lunar twilight in Kumbham. The festival end with an hour long percussion and celebration of striking festival is February – March.

This festival is celebrated at Nellikulangara Bhagavathy temple in Palakkad village. It’s the occasion to celebrate the annual joint of the Nellikulangara Bhagavathy by the people of Nenmara and Vallangi village, occurs on Pooran day of Malayalam month of Meenam. Festival begins with traditional flag hoisting ceremony (Kodiyettam). Various art forms like Karivela, Kummatti, and andivelaare are staged along with 30 caparison elephants fringe up in a ritual magnificence under an embellished canopy. This conglomeration of two villages is second utter paramount to Thrissur Pooram. Perfect timing is during February/March to visit the serene environs.

The starting of April month, hunt for the finest elephants begins and tenancies of graceful elephants are delivered to partake in Thrissur Pooram at Trichur. As a tribute to Vadakkuntha Shiva, festival was commenced in 18 century by Cochin majestic family. Elephants carry the deity during festival processions and ceremonial circumambulations in temples. The temple elephants are decorated with gold plated caparisons (nettipattam), bells, and necklaces. People mounted on elephants hold tinseled silk parasols up high, swaying white tufts, and peacock feather fans to the rhythm of the orchestra. Drums and nadhaswarams form pious melodious scene with elephants outfacing each other. The last highlight of festival ceases with breathtaking fireworks. Ideal month to visit is April.

Onam is an annual Hindu festival with origins in Kerala. Celebrated as thanksgiving ceremony of the harvest and welcoming the mighty asura King, Mahabali. People make efforts to impress their Mahabali who is believed to recur to his subjects. A treat to be a part of great carnival is in August/September.
