Thiruvalathoor

Thiruvalathoor is known for its ancient temple, which features excellent woodwork and stone sculptures. According to legend, an army of Gods built the temple’s outside wall, but because they were unable to finish it by daylight, they left it unfinished so that humanity would not notice it. Despite continuous human efforts to erect the wall, it remains unfinished.

Thenari

Thenari is a holy shrine located on the Pollachi Road from Palakkad town. The famed Sree Rama temple in Thenari is devoted to Lord Rama, and the natural spring in front of the old temple is revered as sacred as the waters of the holy Ganges. It is claimed that Lord Rama and Sita visited this location during their exile.

Jain Temple of Jainimedu

Jainimedu is a Jain temple located 3 kilometres from Palakkad’s centre. It was built in the 15th century. This temple was built by Jain Leader Inchana Satur and is dedicated to Chandraprabha, a Tirthankar of the Jain religion. This granite marvel of history is 32 feet long and 20 feet wide, with images of the Jain Thirthankaras and Yakshinis. Kumaranasan, a highly regarded Malayalam poet, penned his famous poem Veenapoovu (The Fallen Flower) at a Jain residence near this temple.

Tipu’s Fort

Tipu’s Fort, also known as the Palakkad Fort, stands high in the middle of Palakkad. Hyder Ali, the monarch of the Mysore region, built this fort in 1766, and it is now a protected monument under the Archaeological Survey of India. The fort has an open-air auditorium called “Rappadi” on its vast grounds. Inside, there is a little temple called Anjaneya Swamy Temple, and on the opposite side is a children’s park. It is one of the best-preserved forts in southern India.

Kalpathy Shiva Temple

Kalpathy is one of Kerala’s oldest ‘Brahmin Agraharams’, situated in the heart of the town. The ‘Ratholsavam’ event, which takes place in the middle of November, is well-known in Palakkad.
