Kairali Ayurvedic Group since its inception in the year 1989 has maintained its legacy in the field of Ayurveda and has always tried to propagate the discipline. Along with the preaching of the discipline it has also maintained an organic farm with all the fruits, trees and vegetables grown organically. Following are the list of all the products that are grown in the organic garden of Kairali.

The hotel and spa fraternity have reached to a new and standardized echelon and Kairali’s contribution to it is of tremendous importance.

The belief that food is the primary medicine for all kinds of ailments and maladies has been taken up very seriously by Kairali. Organic farming and cultivation is the sole method opted for making lives easier and healthier at Kairali-The Ayurvedic Healing Village. The various other corporate social responsibility initiated by Kairali in improving and maintaining the farming report are as follows:

Sustainable Farming: Sustainable agriculture is the efficient production of safe, high quality agricultural products, in a way that protects and improves the natural environment, the social and economic conditions of farmers, their employees and local communities and safeguards the health and welfare of all farmed species. It is a type of agriculture that focuses on producing long-term crops and animal husbandry; while having minimal effect on the environment. This type of agriculture tries to find a good balance between the need for production and the preservation of the ecological system with the environment. Use of organic fertilizers (organic waste, kitchen waste recycling, leaf mould composting) are used to make the cultivation more sustainable and chemical-free. The cultivation comprises of:

Kairali does its own rice production in a pure organic way. Varieties of rice are grown in the paddy fields for both food production purpose and Ayurveda treatment.

Arboretum: It means a large garden where many types of trees are grown for people to look at and also be studied for scientific purpose. More than 200 species of trees are grown that also include fruticetum. In this fruticetum, we have grown 70 different varieties of fruit trees along with exotic fruit trees like Garcinia, West Indian Cherry and many more. Some of the fruit trees grown are:

Afforestation: It is the establishment of a forest cover in an area where previously there was no presence of a tree cover. Each and every monsoon, rare species of trees are grown like Beggar’s tree bowl, Kunthrigam, Kayam, Black Bamboo etc. Two types if forest development are followed here-

(i). Agro-forestry: It is a collective name for land-use systems involving trees combined with crops and/or animals on the same unit of land.
(ii). Miyawaki method of plantation: The Miyawaki method of plantation involves the planting of different types of trees close together in a small pit.

Agriculture: “Rice Bowl of Kerala” is the synonym for Palakkad. The main crops cultivated are paddy, coconut, pulses, areca nut, tapioca, ginger, groundnut, sugarcane, pepper etc. Coconut and paddy occupies the pre-dominant place among the major crops of Olassery. About 80% of the village is agriculturists or agricultural laborers. The climate of the village is suitable for the cultivation of crops such as mango, jackfruit, pineapple, papaya, varieties of banana (Nendra Pazam, Rasakadali or Njali Poovan Lady Finger Banana, Poovan Pazam or Mysore Banana, Monthan or Baji Banana, Robusta and Tissue Culture Banana in all varieties) etc. Here various types of vegetation are involved and we have a collection of 12 honeybee boxes that explains the lifecycle and different types of bees in the world.

Other Contributions: Kairali also has a water harvesting pond with the cultivation of some medicinal plant like Phyllanthus Niruri, Basil, Cynodan Doctylon, Cyprus Rotundus, Euphorbia Hirta, Solanium Xantho Carpum, Clitoria Ternatia, Adathoda, Nemm, Tylophora Malabarica, Tinispora Corditolia, Centella Asiatica, Anayadian, Morinda Dioctoria, Gloriassa, Kurumthotty and Krishna Tulasi. These are grown naturally in our paddy field area. The herbal garden that Kairali possesses have proved to be of utmost importance and all the cuisines are made out of those vegetables and fruits that have the highest nutritional value. Our organic garden have 6 different kinds of bamboo which are Bamboo Black, Water Bamboo, Golden Bamboo, Buddha Bamboo, Bamboo Cluster and White Bamboo and 30 different kinds of palms out of which Royal Palm, Orange Palm, Arecca Palm, Foxtail Palm, Champagne Palm, Red Palm, Bismarkia Palm and Pichordia Palm are some of them and 5 kinds of banana namely, Nendra Pazam, Rasakadali or lady finger banana, Poovan Pazam or Mysore Banana, Monthan or Baji Banana, Robusta and tissue culture bananas in all varieties. Unique species of trees like kepel, marang, kattir lime, black bamboo, mangoosteem, nutmeg etc. are grown and its medicinal value have been shared across the village.
